What is the difference between a bumper mounted tow hitch and a frame mounted tow hitch?
My truck has a tow ball on the bumper, is this as strong as a frame hitch? It's rated to tow 2000 lbs, is this rating for the bumper or if I install a frame mounted hitch? Is a bumper hitch ok for a camper?
I'm looking hard at a 1700 lb pop up camper with no brakes
Check to make sure the hitch isn't mounted to the frame before you assume its only mounted to the bumper. If it is only mounted to the bumper, it won't handle towing 2,000 lbs. If you have a truck, chances are its mounted to the frame behind the bumper.
Personaly, I wouldn't use a bumper mounted hitch for anything.
