Do I need a CDL to tow a 8' x 36' Modular Office Trailer?
I am looking to purchase a Used Office Trailer located in Somerset Indiana. I live in Houston, Texas. I have a 1-Ton Flat-bed truck that can haul the trailer, but do not know if I need a CDL License to do so. The Office Trailer is 8' x 36' with the hitch, the box itself is 8' x 32'. This is a direct quote from the listing....."This trailer can be towed without an oversize permit. A 3/4 or 1 ton truck will pull it easily." So, it leads me to believe I do not need a CDL, but I want to make sure. Thank you!
Most likely no. You need to add up the GVWR on the trailer with the GVWR of the truck that is pulling it. (look at the plate on the tongue of the trailer, and the driver door of the truck.)

If the truck is over 26,000 then you need a class B CDL.
If the total of both is over 26,000, and the trailer is over 10,000 you need a class A CDL.
Even if you do not need a CDL, If you are over 10,000 interstate (between multiple states,using it for business purposes, must follow all federal guidelines. (hours of service, driver qualification, USDOT numbers etc.)
