Hitch Tongue

I know the question is broad and probably so. But, I am wondering about things like tongue rolling, attached earlobes, hitch hikers thumb ect. These traits are found in ether or of our majority population. If this is true, then one of our ancestors had to have had a mutation,(when the 2 sex cells were combining DNA's) , thus giving us one of the opposites to something like tongue rolling or hitch hikers thumb. Does anyone think that this could have happened at the beginning of human kind? This had to of happened through multiple mutations right? Or does anyone think human kind has had these traits passed on from another species say the ancestor of chimps and humans? Thanks!
