how much can i pull on my 1975 chevy cheyenne camper speical c20 350?

it is a heavy 3/4 ton my dad says....it has a heavy duty front and rear springs, heavy duty front and rear shock absorbers and heavy duty front stabilizer bar...it is a 4 speed manual with granny gear...and a 350 and i think my dad said that it had a heavy cam in it but not sure...idk what kind of rear end the stock ones had on it so....i was wondering how much could i pull bumper and goose neck hitch on it? and i live in new mexico.

A bumper hitch vs a gooseneck hitch or fifth-wheel hitch does not change the maximum rated towing capacity of your truck. It is just that a gooseneck hitch or fifth-wheel hitch gives you better weight distribution and more stable handling. As for how much weight you can tow, the maximum towing capacity is easily calculated if you know the curb weight of the truck plus the weight of the cargo the truck is carrying and the GCWR (gross combined weight rating). To calculate the maximum rated towing capacity of your truck you will need to weigh the truck (with fuel tank full) if you do not know the curb weight. Most truck stops have certified automated truck scales and the scale fee is typically $5.00 to $9.00. Just drive your truck onto the scale platforms and position your front axle on the forward-most platform and your drive axle on the second platform and then push the intercom button and you will be answered by someone at the trucker's fuel desk. It only takes a few seconds to weigh the truck and the person at the fuel desk who is operating the scale will announce over the intercom when the weigh is complete and instruct you pull off the scale and park and come to the fuel desk to get the weigh ticket and pay the fee. Most truck stops have two fuel desks, one for the general public who are purchasing gasoline and one for truckers who are purchasing diesel fuel. The weigh ticket will be at the trucker's fuel desk. But there are other weigh options. You can go to a farmer's co-op or grain elevator to weigh your truck and, if they don't weigh it for free, they will typically charge about $2.00 and give you a printout of the weight. Another option, which is free, is to pull onto an interstate DOT truck weigh station scale and then pull around back and go in the weigh station office to get the weigh information. Anyway, once you know the curb weight of your truck, subtract that plus the cargo weight (including passengers) from the GCWR and what remains is the maximum rated towing capacity of your truck. Below is the maximum allowable GCWR (gross combined weight rating) of GM C/K trucks with a 5.7L 350 cubic inch engine, listed by transmission and rear axle gear ratio. This and the GCWR for other engines is in your owner's manual.

GM C/K trucks with a 5.7L 350 cubic inch engine and automatic transmissions:
3.08 rear axle gear ratio = 10,000 lbs GCWR
3.42 rear axle gear ratio = 11,000 lbs GCWR
3.73 rear axle gear ratio = 12,000 lbs GCWR
4.10 rear axle gear ratio = 13,500 lbs GCWR
4.56 rear axle gear ratio = 15,000 lbs GCWR
5.13 rear axle gear ratio = 16,000 lbs GCWR

GM C/K trucks with a 5.7L 350 cubic inch engine and standard transmissions:
3.73 rear axle gear ratio = 12,000 lbs GCWR
4.10 rear axle gear ratio = 13,500 lbs GCWR
4.56 rear axle gear ratio = 15,000 lbs GCWR
5.13 rear axle gear ratio = 16,000 lbs GCWR

To determine the rear axle gear ratio in your truck, look for one of these RPO (regular production option) codes among the RPO codes listed on the Service Parts Identification label. The Service Parts Identification label will be on the driver door or in the glove box.

Just remember, the formula for calculating your maximum towing capacity is to subtract the curb weight of your truck plus the cargo weight (including passengers) from the GCWR (gross combined weight rating) and the remaing balance then is equal to your maximum towing capacity. I expect the calculation will show that your maximum towing capacity is about 9,000 lbs. Maybe a little more.
