How hard is it to hook up.....?
I am going to be moving soon and I am renting a uhual trailer to pull behind my car. I drive a Mustang (2004) and I will have to hook up a trailer hitch to it. Will my car do alright pulling this trailer (I am moving from Missouri and going to Southern California)? Will it be hard on it? How hard is it to hook up a trailer hitch to a Mustang? Any help on this would be great. And I was looking and there are different hitch sizes (goes by weight), which one would I need (2000 lbs???)
I would not want to pull anything bigger than a motorcycle to southern Cal. with a car the size of a mustang. If i were U i would take care to not overload the trailer. When U do load the trailer U want about 65% of your weight in front of the trailer axle. (this keeps the trailer from fish-tailing all the way to Cali.) fish-tailing can be dangerous. I would say 1800 pounds would be safe in the trailer. (so yes, a 2000 LBS is good) As far as hook-up it is simple. There are many types but the basics go like this; Make sure U have the right size ball. they come in 1,7/8 inch 2 inch and 2,5/16 inch the later you will not have it is for mobile homes and larger trucks. You set the trailer on the ball and lock whatever kind of lock there is, Double check the lock by IMEDEDANTLY jacking ,or cranking the trailer back up. if it comes off the ball U did not have it safe. If the car starts to rise then you are safe.
