Can I use 24in runners for an auto block hitch knot instead of 48 inches worth of accessory cord?
This is primarily for cleaning the top anchors and rappelling down. So far I've been doing it without the auto block, but I feel it would be wise to have one. I also can't seem to find accessory cord that is less than 30 feet.
Yes it is smart to always use an autoblock on rappel, especially if you will be doing something like cleaning pro, which requires you to use your hands. As for the 24-in runner, it would be okay, but I have found that cordelette is simpler and more predictable when used for friction knots than nylon runners. So personally, I always try to use cord...and I agree with the other response, how can you not find cord shorter than 30 feet?! Even if you can't buy it, just cut it and melt the ends...I do it all the time.
